She has a B.A. in Art and Art History and a minor in Anthropology from DePaul University\, an M.A. in Art History from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee\, and is about to complete an Ed.D. in Community College Leadership from Ferris State University. She currently serves as the Director of a STEM program at Northeastern Illinois University and has taught arts and humanities courses at Kendall College of Art and Design\, Triton College\, and Harold Washington College. She has also worked in museum education\, as an ethnographer and archaeologist\, and is a Fulbright-Hays scholar. She teaches coursework through the lens of human rights\, restorative justice\, and community building.

DESCRIPTION:Join us as we showcase the talents of Los Artistas Of The Great Lakes.\nJuly 1st-13th 2024.\nEnjoy this unique hispanic art show from: Dominican Republic\, Panama\, Colombia\, Mexico.\n\n\nART EXHIBITION: Los Artistas of the Great Lakes.\nLocation: AuSable Artisan Village Performing Arts Center\n122 Michigan Avenue\, Grayling\, Michigan.\nHours: 10:00am-5:00pm Daily.\nFree Entry (Donations Appreciated)\nOpening Reception: July 5th 5-8pm Fiesta Celebration 122 Michigan Ave\, Grayling\, MI.\n\n\nAbout Los Artistas:\n\nThere is diversity in Hispanic cultures and within our group. We formed in 2022 during the Hispanic Heritage Festival month. We exhibited our art together at the Battle Creek Art Center. From there we exhibited at the Carnegie Center For The Arts in Three Rivers MI\, East End Gallery in Marshall MI\, Commerce Point Gallery in Battle Creek MI\, and The Cycling Salamander Gallery in Charlevoix MI.\n\n     We are a diverse group of 5 Hispanic artists. Coco Sweezy and George Martinez are both Mexican.  Coco was raised in Mexico City to a long established family and has her Master’s degree in art history. George was raised in a migrant family that traveled across the USA harvesting crops. Fausto sold paintings as a child in The Dominican Republic. Carol was educated in Columbia and the USA and is married to a University Professor. My mother was from Panama\, earned her Master’s degree in law and was a WWll War Bride.\n\n    “Bringing our Artwork to Grayling is going to be an exciting event focusing on the diversity of artwork within our 5 artists. Each artists has their own creative style that viewers will soon learn to recognize. It’s a fun show that children and adults can enjoy together”. Xenia Schafer
