AuSable Artisan Village Board Member Overview
Help Shape the Future of Arts & Culture in Grayling
ABOUT US
Since 2010, the AuSable Artisan Village (AAV) has been a driving force in the cultural and economic vitality of downtown Grayling and Northern Michigan. Our mission is to initiate and support art and creative activities that enrich lives and fuel cultural and economic development.
We operate two vibrant downtown locations:
- Art Gallery & Creativity Center – Featuring the work of over 70 local and regional artists, hosting art classes for all ages, and offering a small stage for intimate performances.
- Performing Arts Center & Mud Room – A larger stage with professional lighting and sound for concerts, events, and community theatre; plus pottery wheels and kilns for ceramic arts.
In addition, we host regular concerts, art workshops, gallery exhibitions, and community theatre performances, making AAV a cornerstone for creative expression in the region.
OUR STRUCTURE
- 1 Full-Time Employee – Executive Director
- Volunteer Driven – Nearly all operations are powered by a dedicated group of 30-40 volunteers and artists — staffing the gallery, taking tickets at events, running the board, putting on theatre productions and much more.
- Working Board – Our board members are hands-on. In addition to our monthly board meetings, we bring our experience to serve on and/or lead the various committees that sustain the day-to-day operations of the organization.
BOARD MEMBER COMMITMENTS
Board members are expected to:
- Attend monthly board meetings the last Monday of each month
- Join and actively participate in at least one or two committees
- Dedicate a minimum of 3 hours per month outside meetings to AAV activities
- Assist with fundraising, event participation, and volunteer recruitment
- Act as ambassadors for AAV in the community
AAV board commitment can vary by month, but on average means two to three meetings per month plus hands-on involvement in events or projects.
CULTURE & EXPECTATIONS
AAV thrives on energy, creativity, and action. We are looking for go-getters who are eager to participate, share fresh ideas, and help us grow. There’s no need to “wait your turn” to contribute—you are encouraged to speak up at meetings, offer solutions, and take initiative from day one. Our most effective board members roll up their sleeves, help streamline processes, and work collaboratively to accomplish more for our artists, audiences, and community.
WHY JOIN THE AAV BOARD?
- Make a direct impact on the arts, culture, and economy of Grayling.
- Collaborate with artists, creatives, and community leaders.
- Be part of an energized, committed team shaping AAV’s next chapter.
